About Me
- Name: Dr. Keith Frome
I am a former independent school headmaster who seeks to teach parents to not treat their children as recipes who need a certain kind of experience and the cultivation of certain skills and attitudes to become valuable commodities in society. I urge parents to develop a form of relationship with their children that I call Spiritual Parenting. Spiritual Parenting begins with a foundation of respect and awe for the radical freedom of the child. Rather than treating the child as a means to an end, the spiritual parent treats her child as an end in and for himself. Spiritual Parenting is not permissive parenting; indeed, I push parents to hold their children responsible and to set limits. Spiritual Parenting is the quest to develop a genuine and life-long attitude of reverence for the mystery of creation. I hold a theology degree from Harvard Divinity School, lifetime teacher certification from Harvard University, and a doctorate in philosophy and education from Columbia University Teachers College. I taught writing at Harvard College where I also served as a Senior Advisor. I was the Headmaster-elect and Headmaster of the Elmwood Franklin School from 1996-2006.
